Share on Twitter Share on Facebook 2 min readPoker content creator extraordinaire Joey Ingram is rebuilding a stack after losing a cooler monster pot on Day 2 of the World Poker Tour (WPT) World Championship at Wynn.
The $10,400 buy-in tournament attracted 2,392 players and is scheduled to play five 90-minute levels on Tuesday. It's unlikely the tournament will hit the money before the session concludes. But at the time of publishing there were nearly 700 players remaining, all dreaming of winning the $3,138,900 first place prize.
Crazy Poker Hand
Ingram is one of the players still hoping to get a piece of the $23.4 million prize pool and one of the 299 entrants who are seeking a cash in a major poker tournament. But it looked as if he wasn't going to last long on Day 2, not after losing a three-way cooler pot for a big chunk of his chips.
The "great game of pot-limit Omaha" specialist, as he told PokerNewson a break, raised two big blinds from under the gun with pocket kings. The player directly to his left called with, as he'd later learn, pocket queens. Action then heated up when the cutoff opted to flat call with aces.
"Papi" then jammed for 25 big blinds and received calls from the larger-stacked queens and smaller-stacked aces. The board would provide no improvement to any of the three hands, meaning pocket aces scooped the main pot. Ingram received a bit of a rebate from the side pot against pocket queens, but he still lost a chunk in the hand.
The good news for the PLO enthusiast is that he grinded his way back to around 25 big blinds on break, when this article was published. He check-raised all in on the flop in the hand before break and took down the preflop three-way raised pot without receiving a call.
Ingram said it was the first time he'd picked up pocket kings in the tournament. He may be known more for playing PLO, but this no-limit hold'em event is a big deal to him.
"This is basically one of the big $10Ks I play every single year, and I’m excited," Ingram said in a recent interview with PokerNews. "I’ve been visualizing, meditating, working with solvers—you know, solvers, meditation, and reading Twitter. Everyone always has nice things to say on Twitter."
The Las Vegas resident continued to explain that he's competing in a major NLH event because "I'm a big supporter of the World Poker Tour" and Wynn Las Vegas.

- Players can increase their efficiency in obtaining melds by deliberately drawing cards that enhance the cards they currently hold. Managing your discards effectively is another crucial component of strategy. If an opponent declares before you do, you can reduce your possible losses by discarding high-point cards early on. You can also learn a lot about what your opponents might be holding by keeping track of which cards have been discarded. 25-01-03
- You can choose wisely which cards to hold onto & which to discard thanks to this awareness. The ability of a player to adjust to shifting conditions while keeping a laser-like focus on their goals is ultimately what makes a strategy in Rummy Ola successful. In Rummy Ola, one of the most important choices is whether to discard or keep a card. 25-01-03
- Making more informed decisions about your gameplay can be achieved by determining which cards are necessary for your current melds & which are not. Players should also keep in mind how crucial it is to keep their hands balanced. Prioritizing the formation of melds that minimize point values from unmelded cards is a smart move because holding onto too many high-point cards can be dangerous if your opponent declares before you do. 25-01-03

- In the end, maintaining composure under pressure improves each player's performance and makes the game more pleasurable for everyone. The secret to mastering Rummy Ola, like any skill-based game, is practice. Playing the game frequently enables players to improve their decision-making abilities, hone their strategies, and become more accustomed to the range of situations that could occur while playing. 25-01-03
- This information not only makes gameplay better but also encourages players to compete with one another. Developing a successful strategy in Rummy Ola requires a combination of flexibility and tactical thinking. Early in the game, giving priority to forming sequences is one successful strategy. Your hand can have a strong foundation by concentrating on sequences, which are frequently simpler to finish than sets. Since pure sequences—those devoid of jokers—are frequently necessary for a legitimate declaration, players should strive to produce them. 25-01-03
- However, strategic thinking & foresight are necessary for their effective use. Jokers are frequently used to finish unfinished sets or sequences while, whenever feasible, maintaining pure sequences. This strategy not only optimizes the potential of your hand but also reduces your dependency on jokers, which may be restricted in some game variations. 25-01-03

- Each card's possible value must be taken into account as players continuously assess their hands. It can be harmful to discard a card that might aid an opponent in finishing their melds. As a result, it's critical to evaluate both your hand and the potential effects of your discards on your opponents' tactics. For example, it might be a sign that an opponent is almost done with a meld involving those cards if you see them regularly taking cards from the discard pile. 25-01-03
